AS Media Production
In year 12 I was briefed in creating an original concept for a horror film, in which I had to produce a full release and teaser poster in response to. To prepare of this I researched different types sub-genres and hybrid genres of the horror genre, which lead to me deciding on teen slasher horrors. I chose to pick this sub-genre, as it is personally my favourite type of horror to watch, especially the original slashers from the 80s and 90s. Because of this, I decided on creating a teen slasher horror with influence from slashers from the 1990s, but targeting it to both my generation through the teen casting. Throughout the research and planning I conducted, which can viewed below, I was able to analyse typical elements to incorporate into my own work. Using applications such as Picsart and Photoshop I was able to edit in-depth, by filtering my original images to conform to the features of the 1990s, as well as editing on elements to demonstrate the 90s influences. Using my original images, inspired by films like Scream (1996) and I know What You Did Last Summer (1997), I created three final concepts for my slasher idea (seen above) demonstrating the influences from my research and the ideas I had created previously for my planning. Below are examples the planning I conducted before creating my own original concept. I used images sourced online to arrange how I might want my original images for my own piece. Doing so allowed me to rule out some ideas, such as the fire and colour scheme, to help me finalise my concept.
A-Level Media Production
Currently in A-Level studies in media, we are studying the genre of crime drama, and how the genre is established through not only codes and conventions, but also though the different sub-genres and hybrids within. Part of my studies consists of a brief to create the opening of a crime drama of mine own for the BBC. Taking inspiration from my favourite sub-genre of crime, 'whodunnits' or 'murder mystery'. I am planning on creating an opening scene inspired by the narratives of Agatha Christie. I am currently in the planning stages of my production work, by researching the genre and the conventions typical of it, as well as watching and reading popular murder mysteries for inspiration of the kind of narrative I want to create. My in-depth research can be seen here.
